Create a Surprise Message or Gift for When Your Children Reach Life Stages

What:

Here at Parentfile, we’ve developed something we call Milestone Surprises, and they are so much fun to look forward to (for everyone!). A Milestone Surprise is a way to give or share things at specific life stages as your children get older, and to save the surprise in your Parentfile. For example, you could create a Milestone Surprise of a family trip to Italy when your child graduates college. Or giving that family necklace to your daughter when she turns 40. Or even creating a Family Recipe Cookbook to give your child when they go off to college. Or even that stuffed animal your son loved as a child that you saved, giving it to him when he has his first baby. The possibilities are endless.

Why:

Because sharing surprises, both big and little, as everyone gets older is so much fun! One of the “depressing” sides of a will is that the “contents” are shared when you die. While the premise behind a will is important, so much of what we “have” and “want to share” is now digital with our kids - having a Parentfile enables you to save these things very easily (without lawyers!) and then create milestone surprises along the way to give or share specific things with them as everyone gets older.

How:

Create a Milestone Surprise right now for each of your children, and you can do it right in your Parentfile!

1. Log into your Parentfile and go to My Legacy, Milestone Surprises
2. Create a Milestone Surprise for each of your children - remember, it can be as simple as a meaningful book, a family heirloom, or something else that has meaning to you (and them) - and just as important is the life stage you want to give it to them for
3. Then tell them about it today! We recommend telling them you set up a milestone surprise in your Parentfile for them and when they will get it, but not what it is….the intrigue and excitement looking forward to it is magical (for everyone).

Save the Milestone Surprises in your Parentfile in My Legacy, Milestone Surprises

Add to your calendar on January 1st, and recurring annually, to “Create Another Milestone Surprise For Each of the Kids.” The more Milestone Surprises you have out there for the future the more fun to look forward to for everyone!

Make it Ongoing:

In a future update in Parentfile, we will have a countdown timer added to your dashboard showing you how long until these amazing Milestone Surprises happen that are sure to put a smile on everyone’s face! We’re also working on technology to help you share the surprise visually on a computer in case you are not with the recipient. And wait until you see their reaction!
