Create a Family Time Capsule - For 10 Years or 100 Years From Now!

What:

Here at Parentfile, we’ve developed a fun way to create a family time capsule. If you have younger kids, it’s really fun to do this together with them. If your children are older, you may even create your own for 100 years from now for your great-grandchildren to “open.” Talk about a fun thing to leave for the family to look forward to in the future! And just because it’s digital, it doesn’t mean you can’t leave directions to a “hidden family heirloom” they can find somewhere behind a rock, brick or buried in the woods (can you say treasure hunt!).

Why:

Because there’s just something magical about a time capsule. And the reality of physical time capsules is they often get lost, so creating a digital one is a fantastic way to do it. And, it’s so fun to look forward to over the years, whether opening it with your family or future generations of your family getting to open it.

How:

It’s so simple and fun, why not set it up today or this weekend!

1. Decide if you want to do it on your own or with your children (especially fun if you have young children.)
2. Select what you want to put in it - it could be a written message, fun facts about your family, family photos, a map or riddle where to find a family heirloom you have “hidden” somewhere in the woods, or even a video message to be read in the future.
3. Decide when it should be opened - 10 years from now? 100 years from now? You pick!
4. Create a Milestone Surprise in your Parentfile in My Legacy, Milestone Surprises, and put it there labeled as a Family Time Capsule and when it should be opened!
5. Tell your family about it, but don’t tell them what’s in it. Maybe give them a little hint that there’s “a map” or “riddle” to where to find a family treasure and other fun stuff and when they get to open it!
