Create a Family Recipe Cookbook (That You Keep Adding Things To!)
What:
Here at Parentfile, we think family recipes are priceless. And we wanted a better way to preserve them, add new ones, and to share these from generation to generation. And what a fun project to keep adding things to over the years as your family finds new recipes they like, you come up with your own new recipes on holidays and more. AND, keep in mind this can also be a great present to give your children for a holiday (if they are grown), or to ask for from Grandma or Grandpa for an upcoming holiday for your children (since it’s always hard to know anyways what for them to give them!).
Why:
Because food is love! And often times these recipes are lost from generation to generation, or your sister may have a family recipe you never even knew about. And because your Mom’s favorite lasagna recipe is still a pinch of this and a pinch of that, and asking her how she makes it will actually get it written down and saved. And because those recipes we make on the holidays are a big part of what makes the holidays magical, so save these for your children someday!
How:
It’s so simple, go save at least one recipe right now and get it started!
Step 1 - Email to Your Family for Ideas
Use this brief email below and send it to your own parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and anyone else who may have some family recipes worth adding!
Hi everyone - I’m creating a Family Recipe Cookbook in my Parentfile, so that I can save all our best family recipes in one spot. If you have any that you love or has been in our family for a while, I’d love for you to respond to this email with the recipes. Thank you!
Step 2 - Find Your Own Recipes
What do you children love that you make? What ethnic recipes did your own parents make? Go find the recipes, or look them up online, and get ready to add them to your Parentfile! Trust us, your children will be SO HAPPY to have these someday, and you’ll be the hero for saving them!
Step 3 - Add them to Your Parentfile
Put in the recipe title and descriptions in the Family Treasures section of your Parentfile. Pressed for time (or have too many recipes?), simply take a picture of the recipe and upload that!
Where to Save:
Save the recipes in your Parentfile in My Legacy, Family Treasures, Recipes
Add to your calendar on January 1st, and recurring annually, to “Add New Family Recipes to My Parentfile.
*************Ask for it as a Gift!:*************
Here at Parentfile we talk a lot about how “hard it is” to tell Grandma and Grandpa what to give the kids for their birthday or a holiday like Christmas or Hanukkah. Whether your child is 5 or 25, it’s really hard to know what they want or that will not be thrown away in a year, and money is just so impersonal. So we’ve got a solution! Ask Grandma and Grandpa to collect all their family recipes and print them out, put them in a folder, and label it the “xxx Family Recipe Cookbook.” Talk about a meaningful gift that they will treasure more and more every year - and how fun to make recipes! You can also then digitize the pages and save them in your Parentfile for them to have someday in case they lose the physical version (which they probably will!).
